Dougie, Danny, Tom and Harry will spend year in America {mirror}
Now the band have set up their own record company, Supersonic, they believe the sky’s the limit.
With seven UK No 1s already under their belts, Dougie, Danny, Tom and Harry are about to spread their wings, including a year in America.
Tom told us: “We didn’t get to travel much with our previous record company but now we really want to get out there.
“We never did much in America and that’s one thing we’d like to do. To do it properly we’d need to spend a year over there and visit all the towns - not just New York and LA.”
* After dumping their record company, McFly had to tighten the purse strings and skip the superstar luxuries. Danny said: “We flew economy back from Australia instead of first class - everything is going back into the next album.”
Arena Tour, 2008 {doncasterfreepress}
McFly are back with a bigger sound, a brand new agenda and are embarking on a massive arena tour this November. Starting at Sheffield Arena on Friday 7th and ending at Liverpool Arena on Saturday 29th.Their stomping, summer anthem in One For The Radio, the debut release on their own label, Super Records is out now (Monday 14th July). The single is an ode to the fans that have made them one of the biggest British bands of the decade; One For The Radio wraps its energetic pop melody in crashing drums, cascading guitars and jubilant lyrics that come on like a call-to-arms. Recorded in Australia in January, produced by Jason Perry, former frontman of rockband ‘A’, the first single from the band’s forthcoming, fourth album, Radio:ACTIVE, marks a glorious start to the second stage of the quartet’s career.
Last year, McFly opted to leave the major label that launched them in 2004 and helped them achieve multi-platinum sales success. Funded by the band themselves, Super Records is a wholly independent operation, staggering not just for an act of their size but because all four members are only aged between 20 and 22.
“Are we nervous? Not at all. These songs are by far the best we’ve ever done. We’ve never been happier.” says drummer Harry Judd. The joy and excitement you hear in One For The Radio sums up how McFly feel right now.
“We can’t wait for our fans to hear it and we can’t wait to play it to them live,” Says Harry
McFly’s Tom Fletcher in secret training to be a pilot {dailyrecord}
McFLY’S Tom Fletcher has been living up to his band’s name by taking private flying lessons.
And Tom, who has notched up 46 hours in the air, can’t wait for the day when he can take his bandmates on holiday.
Tom, who turns 23 today, told the Razz: “I’ve been training to get my pilot’s licence. I’ve been flying for a little while. I’ve always wanted to learn to fly because I’ve always been into planes and all that.”
Tom is following in the footsteps of Jordan, John Travolta, and Westlife, who have also learned to be pilots.
He joked: “We could have a celebrity plane fly-off with Jordan, but we’d probably crash. I flew solo to Leicester and back again and had the worst landing ever at Leiscester. The plane has only got one engine. The plan is for the future so when we go on holiday we’ll get there all right.”
Bandmate Danny Jones, who says the boys can’t afford private jets now they’ve left their big label, has also requested a boat licence so he can help out when the boys reach their destination.
He said: “I’ve requested my boat licence - only to drive the guys wakeboarding. It’s not exciting but it means we can go on the water when we’re there.”
The guys are flying high as their new single One for The Radio soars towards the top of this weekend’s charts.
Their first output from new label Super Records could hit number one in the singles charts.
The guys reckon the time is right because pop is bigger than ever as a result of comebacks from pop predecessors.
Danny said: “Comebacks from old bands has helped. The pop market is strong again. For the past two years it was only us, Sugababes and Girls Aloud. Pop is popular again.”
And they’ve not ruled out collaborating with either girl band.
Tom added: “It would also be cool to write with Gary Barlow.”
Now We’re McFlying {daily star}
MCFLY have revealed the real reason they dumped their record company – bosses wanted to turn them into a chill-out act.
The pop foursome, who are heading for No 1 with the first single on their own newly-started label, refused to get serious.Frontman Tom Fletcher told me: “We felt that we had creative differences and in terms of the record label that we were just going through the motions.
“It was the same cycle every time you release a single or album.
“We always wanted to be bigger and better and we never felt that we had achieved our true potential so we felt that we could get closer to achieving that on our own.
“They (Universal) wanted to take us in a direction that we really didn’t want to go in.
“They wanted us to be a bit more chilled-out and more subdued, but that is not who we are.
“We like having a laugh and felt we were being pushed in a direction that we really didn’t want to
go in.”Single One For The Radio isn’t even the best track on their new album Radio:Active, reckons Tom. He continued: “We have got much better songs but we felt that this one had a bit of a statement.
“Once you have finished making an album it is handed over to your record label, who then control how it is marketed.
“We felt that we could create a better team of people that are really enthusiastic.”Now Tom and bandmates Dougie Poynter, 20, Harry Judd and Danny Jones, both 22, are their own boss, they’re involved in all the decisions.
Tom, who turns 23 today, said: “We are giving away the album first then selling it at a lower price than normal.
“The album we are putting out in the shops will be a deluxe version with four extra songs, a DVD and a 32-page booklet.”
McFly bid to snare net pervs {the sun} » Pictures Here
McFLY have launched a worldwide bid to keep youngsters safe on the internet - after online predators fooled their fans, posing as members of the band.
The pop foursome have even resorted to closing down their own personal social network profiles, so no copycats can use their fame to contact vulnerable children.
The band yesterday joined Prince Edward in London to open the International Youth Advisory Congress, attended by 150 teenagers from across the globe.
They will spend five days drawing up a charter for to present at the United Nations, packed with ideas on how to tackle the growing online menaces of cyber-bulling and grooming by paedophiles.
Shock figures released by the conference reveal one in 10 children have been targeted by a paedophile in a chat room, social networking site or over email.
A fifth of 11 to 19 year olds have been bullied by electronic means and 25 per cent of 11 to 16s have met someone in real life who they befriended in the virtual world.
McFly’s Danny said: “There have been a few instances we know of where people pretended to be our friends or families and even us.
“They had pictures and information about us and used it to talk to our fans or try and meet up.
“It’s scary what power they have got. You have to be very careful.”
Fellow member Tom agreed, warning: “They think they are talking to us but it’s not us.”
And Harry added: “We say to our fans, 99.9 per cent of the time it won’t be us. So don’t fall for it. We need to know our fans are safe using the internet.”
McFly fans can see their heroes’ London concert live at Southport’s Vue cinema {southportvisiter}
McFLY fans can see their heroes’ London concert live from the comfort of a Southport cinema.
On Thursday, July 24, Vue in Ocean Plaza will screen a live broadcast from the band’s performance at the iTunes Live: London Festival at Camden’s Koko venue.
As tickets for Koko are only for competition winners, this is the only other chance the McFly faithful has of seeing the lads belt out their hits at the event.
McFly’s Danny Jones said: “This summer is going to be unbelievable for us. Being invited to be part of the iTunes Festival is incredible, but for me and the lads to be starring on the big screen is just amazing.”
The boys are also featured in AXM magazine, would anyone be able to send me the scans please? =] [email: contact@mcflyonline.org ]
